The superhero saga known as The Avengers has finally begun its onslaught on the box office. Created in the early 1990s by writer-director Joe Johnston, The Avengers is a sequel to the original Marvel Comics super-hero comic series The Incredible Hulk and The Incredible T. This particular film series is written by the famous comic book writer David Michelinie. The Avengers is currently ranked as one of the top ten highest grossing films of all time in the United States, with an estimated gross of over one billion dollars.
In the film, the titular character is a fictional version of the real life, well-known super-hero, Iron Man. During World War II, when the super-hero was discovered, his origin story was changed to include the creation of the first Iron Man suit. He then went on to fight in the Second World War. His more recent exploits have included battles with some of the most notable super-villains. Originally an Avenger (an entity tasked with protecting the world from threats), the character is most associated with the military-intelligence community, but in recent years he has also become involved in many outside affairs.
The core of the Avengers is the group of military and espionage agents known as The Avengers, who fight crime together. At the center of this group is Captain America, who is portrayed by the legendary actor Chris Evans. Another member is the quiet and studious Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson. She is a Russian spy, although her true identity has not been revealed to the public.
Although the main characters all have one major connection, it is the role of the villain known as Loki, that is the most intriguing. He is portrayed by the great British actor, Tom Hiddleston. Having a connection to Asgard, the far-off, mystical realm of Asgard the Norse gods reside in, Loki is shown as quite a conniving and scheming character. Loki's goal is to use the Tesseract, a magical device from the Norse myth, to obtain immortality. For this, he has set about conspiring with several villains, including an armored villain, Baron Zemo, played by Samuel L. Jackson.
The latter character, played by James Spader, is a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, who were framed for the death of his brother, and becomes bent on revenge. This all leads to the final confrontation between this group of Avengers and their villainous foes. Although The Avengers does receive a lot of positive reviews, there are critics who don't like the way the movie is shot. Part of the reason for this criticism might be the fact that the action sequences are difficult to follow and don't look as spectacular as they would have if the movie had been shot in 3D.
There are three movies in the TV series The Avengers, all of which feature the same characters, and the series finale, titled, 'The End', features a special appearance by Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. During the television series, several familiar faces from the comics were introduced. Among them was Hawkeye, a vigilante sharpshooter who, along with the other Avengers, fights crime.
Each episode of the television series, in addition to its theatrical release, received a movie tie-in comic book series that often featured characters and scenes from the movie. The Incredible Hulk is a comic book series that was published by Marvel Comics and was co-created by the veteran writer Stan Lee and the great artist Jack Kirby. The Incredible Hulk was extremely popular in its day, and the comic book was reprinted in many different versions throughout the decades.
The TV series aired on the Disney-ABC Television Network, and the serie itself was also produced by the Walt Disney Company. The movie's The Avengers, The Winter Soldier, and Captain America: The First Avenger was distributed by Sony Pictures, and the television series was aired on the Disney Channel. While the television series was cancelled after five seasons, the film's Captain America: The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier were produced in very short runs and received poor box office receipts.
