The movie "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" is an online movie adaptation of the novel. It tells the story of one boy's struggle to find his way in the adult world after an incident at a young age. Though a bit dull compared to the main series, it brings a fresh perspective on adults and their pasts. It is not only about an ordinary boy but also about adults who have memories of when they were children.
This movie doesn't follow the chronological order of the series, but follows the various characters and situations that arise during the course of the story. The storyline is almost similar to the original series. The main character, Percy Jackson, an ordinary boy who is a descendant of gods is challenged to complete an un-revealed prophecy that an impending war will destroy the world. In the series, this prophecy is called "The prophecy of the Ocean of Fear". The movie says that the prophecy is very important to the gods.
As a result, he undergoes training by a pirate named Dagda, who teaches him how to harness his powers in order to fight the monsters who have been summoned. His goal is to find a way to stop the big war, and to save all the people living in the world. He also realizes that some of the adults are also trying to save the people who were born before their time.
I found this movie to be a bit boring but entertaining at the same time. Although there are many similarities to the original series, this movie was a bit more of a retread. Some of the episodes also reminded me of the TV show "Nip/Tuck". The characters were also based on the stories from the book.
Although the English subtitles used in the movie weren't really clear, it can still be understood. That's about the only positive thing I could say about the movie. There are several jokes that fell flat with me. The cinematography was pretty good, although I felt that the scenes where Percy was moving in slow motion didn't really work for me.
The actual problem I had with the movie was because it wasn't what I expected. I thought that the plot would follow the same story as the series. However, the movie unfortunately lacked the original and interesting elements that the main series was known for.
However, the movie does have its share of clever moments. For example, when he meets the man who told him about the prophecy, he quickly concludes that the person was telling him the truth. The whole thing is done through the use of a pocket watch that keeps track of time. It was pretty awesome to see the magic of fantasy coming true.
I would recommend this movie to people who don't like the series, as well as those who love it. It is still a good story about a boy with special powers fighting for justice.
