The first film to be adapted from a famous book was the Little Women series. E. M. Forster's classic novel, set in Victorian England, has been adapted several times for film. Most of these adaptations were quite well received by both audiences and critics alike. They helped introduce the book to American audiences and a lot of new readers were introduced to the series.
