Synopsis

Godmothered is a very interesting film that debuted in theaters last year. Starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Jacob Lofland, the movie was a box office hit, bringing the star-studded cast to the attention of movie lovers all over the world. The film explores the question, what if we could raise a child with no memories of his or her birth? That subject matter may sound odd, but if you think about it, the movie goes on to show that the child is perfectly healthy, happy, and intelligent. This makes the film one to watch with an open mind...

If the concept doesn't give you chills, then I don't know what would. Directed by David Fincher, the movie revolves around a father (Bale), who are dying of cancer, and his two children (Breta and Jesse), who are left in New York City. They are adopted by two elderly men (Marcus Mumford and Jason Gann). The father (Bale) has a new cell phone that he uses to keep in touch with his children, but also to talk to his "spirit guide," which turns out to be his son. While at first, things seem to be going well, the boys discover that their father has some unfinished business, and he wants them to help him complete it.

Based off of a successful book, Godmother of the Gods is based on a Greek myth about the goddess, Pandora. The movie takes elements from the myths and brings it to life through the acting performances of the children, and the directing. The film will start out slow, but by the end of the film, it picks up speed to present a very thrilling climax. If you want a good introduction to the Godmother character, this is one of the better movies to choose...

Godmother of the Gods follows the titular godmother, played by Helena Bonham Carter, and the different characters she comes across along the way. The plot revolves around her searching for her daughter, Pandora (Lauren Bacall), who has been told that she will receive eternal life if she'll give up her life to marry a certain Greek hero. In addition to having a daughter, she has a son named Paris (Ben Kingsley), who was born after her death. As the plot unfolds, we find out that the godmother was actually a baby when she was in fact artificially inseminated with a wild ox, and she was left behind.

The movie doesn't provide much time between the conception and the birth of Pandora, so we don't get a clear picture of what the child looked like before birth. However, the book suggests that the godmother had a human-like appearance, as opposed to the animals that were used in these times. Based on the plot and the title, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a full movie devoted to the mythology surrounding the Godmothered, and possibly more movies in the future.

Other than the plot, the movie didn't receive a whole lot of praise from film critics, but it did manage to score a respectable number of viewers. Many believed that the film wasn't very captivating, but I feel that it did a great job of introducing us to a character that could become interesting as the story evolves. One of the things that is most appealing about the fairy godmother-in-training is that she isn't a fully-formed character, so it's easy to watch her personality grow as the story progresses. I look forward to more episodes of "The Godfather" starring Anna Deavere Smith and Alexa Chung, as well as seeing what direction The Wachowski Brothers takes with their upcoming project. For now, "The Godmother" looks to continue to capture audiences, especially as Thanksgiving draws closer.
