The latest Mortal Kombat game is Scorpion's Revenge, a new saga that allows players to relive some of the franchise's earlier adventures. It's a little different than your usual Mortal Kombat game, as it's using the same gameplay engine. However, this sequel doesn't just use the same gameplay engine, but instead it uses the original Mortal Kombat Tournament story mode, which was first released on the Nintendo GameCube. It makes for a very interesting way to play the game, though it may be a little too different for some players.
Scorpion's Revenge is set in an evil realm called Outworld. In this realm, ninjas, vampires, demons, and other popular mythological characters all exist. A small army of monstrous Shokan warriors called the Sin Masters lives on the Worldtree, a sacred tree found in the center of Outworld.
Scorpion's story follows the Mortal Kombat Chronicles storyline. This saga takes place a thousand years before the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. No longer can humans coexist with the dark magic of Shokans, who are feared by most of the Worldtree's denizens.
The first game in the series is actually the first game in the story. Players will get a chance to play as both Scorpion and Sub-Zero, who were involved in the final battle in that game. In Scorpion's Revenge, Sub-Zero is back, while Scorpion has been stripped of his powers. He doesn't know what happened to him in the past few centuries, except that he has to be working on a new console...
In this story, you'll fight against members of the Fire Tribe, for example, as well as other human ninjas, and animals that live on Outworld. There are different stages, which means you'll get to fight through different environments, such as vast deserts, and forests.
Scorpion's Revenge has a very interesting campaign. Every level has a goal and is separate from the rest of the game. Each objective is different, as you'll have to rescue a kidnapped child, find out where Shokan are hiding, defeat the final boss, and complete different missions.
For example, the mission objective is to find the whereabouts of a statue of the Last Goro, an ancient god. The statue is guarded by three Shokan warriors, who will try to distract you and steal the statue. You have to find this statue first, before the Shokans can, as you're going to have to go after them later.
While the story is different, the game is still very much the same as most other games in the series. Each character is still a little bit different, but other than that, the story is almost the same as the rest of the games. If you're tired of playing Mortal Kombat the same way over again, Scorpion's Revenge may be a good way to give the game a refreshing change.
