Upcoming horror movie Don't Breathe 2 picks up after the events of the first movie, The Blind Man. In that movie, after busloads of school kids were brutally murdered by a serial killer, Don't Breathe director David Fincher decided to make a spin-off based on the same story. However, there is quite a difference between the original story and the one that are being told in Don't Breathe 2. In the novel, Don't Breathe, Michael Myers plays the title character while in The Blind Man he plays Michael Myers' son, Jack. The story line is vastly different, however, and much like the first film, Don't Breathe 2 includes all the classic scenes from the first movie as well as a few new ones.
Don't Breathe 2 picks up shortly after the events of the first film, as Michael Myers is approaching by lawyer Mark Wahlberg (Philip Seymour Hoffman) to collaborate on a novelized version of the story of the dead girl he himself murdered in his past. Wahlberg convinced Michael to do this, saying it would give him more chances to star in a horror movie. Michael, of course, was not interested, citing how the first film ended with him dying at the end. Nevertheless, Wahlberg insists that there are three possible outcomes to this. If Michael Myers dies, Jack is alive and begins to look for answers for his father's case; if Jack doesn't die, Michael is brought back as a ghost; or, if Michael is left completely dead, he ends up in an alternate timeline. The first film ended with Michael walking through a long hall, past several security guards who point a gun at his head, and the familiar "opening credits" appear.
It seems that Michael Myers has finally come to the end of his horror career, but he's not ready to call it quits just yet. He has an idea that he could save the world one last time, and so he and his friend Sam Haine (Kenny Rice) go on a road trip to a lodge in order to meet their fate. But when they encounter the latest paranormal creature, Don't Breathe 2 is born.
In the second installment of Don't Breathe 2, the once-paranoid Michael Myers is once again dealing with multiple personalities and ghosts, while battling a newly-made timeline. This time, however, Michael must deal with a much more personal foe: his own son, Charlie (Ethan Hawke), who has taken over after his own death. Charlie is not only a constant thorn in Michael's side, but also a budding serial killer who preys on the young victims he enjoys killing. To make matters worse, Charlie's brother, Jacob (Dylan Minnette), also becomes a suspect in the investigation, prompting the FBI to reopen their investigation after receiving information from a confidential source. Once they have obtained the information, the agency launches a manhunt in search of Don't Breathe 2 killers, uncovering a vicious circle of international terrorists and vicious criminals who are hungry for the mass murder that may be behind Don't Breathe 2.
With the ticking clock ticking, Charlie goes on a wild-goose chase, taking a dangerous trek through the Canadian tundra in order to get a badly needed supply of marijuana. However, his trek takes him into a world where he runs afoul of the evil dead. When the newly resurrected evil dead starts destroying the world around them, they must rely on each other in order to survive. Meanwhile, Charlie teams up with a Chinese agent to help him find a way out of town, where a Chinese mystic called Lin Xian (Zhang Zou) resides. But when the team locates and tracks Lin Xian, they discover that he is seeking the same ancient artifacts that helped make Michael famous in the first place...
With the trailer and casting announcements coming right and left, I can't help but think that Don't Breathe 2 might be a huge hit in the horror genre this summer. I think the trailers look absolutely terrifying, and I can't wait to see what Sam Raimi can bring to the franchise. With a cast including Tiffany Haddish, Jason Statham, and Diego Luna, I expect Don't Breathe 2 to be one of the biggest horror films of the year. So what are you waiting for?
